PROFILE OF IRON AND STEEL SENIOR STAFF ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA

Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, was conceived in 1979 after the restructuring of Trade Unions by the Federal Government in 1978.The Registrar of Trade Unions registered it, on the 13th of February.  1981 as NO 86.  The Association caters for the needs of Senior Workers in the Manufacturing and fabrication of basic Iron and Steel Products.  Including such support-establishment as raw materials research and development and training institutions. 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

a)       Organization and Admission of workers who are qualified to be members.

b)       Regularization and formalization of relations with their employers as well as among members.

c)       Establishment and maintenance of hours of work, rate of pay, and conditions of service.

d)       Advancement of education and training of workers, provision of benefits and other assistance to members as provided for in our constitutions.

e)       Protection and advancement of socio-economic and cultural interest of the community.

f)         Encouragement of participation of workers in decision making at the industry and national level.

g)       Such other objectives that are lawful and in line with trade union practice in Nigeria. 

The first delegate conference of the association was held at the premises of Galvanizing Industries limited (GIL) in 1981, which served as the National Secretariat of the association till 1983. 

currently, the body has a registered membership of 6,000 and 23 branches spread across the country.
